Sunset on Big Beach

Our last night in Maui was amazing. The morning had been spectacularly beautiful. Not a cloud in the sky, translucent water, calm water, just amazing.

A picture I took Tuesday morning through my polarized sunglasses

We left the beach midday to run some errands and do the majority of our packing, then headed back around 4:00. By then, however, a line of dark clouds had formed between Haleakala and the uninhabited island to the extreme left of the above picture - something that happens quite frequently - and it soon started raining.

We sat there under our umbrella for an hour or so, watching some young gay guys throw a nerf football around, but finally gave up at around 5:30. During a break in the rain, we packed up and headed over to Big Beach. By the time we got to the path to the parking lot, it was obvious that things were going to clear off. So we planted our chairs on a nearly-deserted beach to stare at the sky and take some fun pictures.

It was the perfect end to our week in Maui. Sigh.
